Klatsmányi híd

Listen to this preview (60s)

The Klatsmányi híd is one of those bridges that tells you a lot about a city’s modern priorities without ever needing to raise its voice. It carries Hungarian road 813 across the Mosoni-Duna in Győr, and it was named after Tibor Klatsmányi. At its opening on 2018 March 14, it was already a major piece of infrastructure: 397.3 meters long, and, at the time, the fifth largest-span bridge in the country. That combination of scale and precision is exactly what gives this crossing its character. It wasn’t built as a decorative flourish; it was built because Győr’s eastern bypass needed a serious river crossing, and this was the answer.

A Bridge For The Bypass The bridge belongs to the third phase of Győr’s eastern bypass, created for the final stretch of Route 813. Planning began in connection with the bypass’s eastern section and the planned continuation to the north. By the end of 2013, preparatory work was already under way for the last section of the road, and the permit plans were completed in 2014. That timeline matters, because bridges like this don’t appear suddenly. They are the visible end point of years of planning, approvals, procurement, and engineering compromises.
