The whole site takes its name from its most spectacular cave, the most emblematic in the area for its uniqueness and its prominent position on the mount. What makes it more than a single hollow is the variety: you get multiple groups of caves, an uncommon ceremonial place, granaries, and a network of paths and alleys carved into the tuff. These caves were dug with stone picks by pre-Hispanic Canarians, and many are arranged around a central main space with smaller rooms opening off it.
