Before this Baroque building, the spot held a pre–city-foundation Romanesque church, probably from the 12th century. The present temple was funded by the Discalced Carmelites, built between 1637 and 1640 in the early Baroque style to plans by Giovanni Battista Trevano, and it was consecrated in 1644. That Carmelite chapter ended when the nuns left in 1787, relocating to the monastery and church of St Teresa on Wesoła, founded by chancellor Jan Szembek. After the church was put up for sale, it reached the Evangelical congregation in 1816. Inside, the main altar includes an 1882 painting by Henryk Siemiradzki showing Christ calming a storm at sea.
