It was a hydrothermal cave that had become inactive, and for visitors it was developed with a closed entrance protected by a barred iron gate. From a masonry, arched entrance, stairs led down 130 centimetres to an underground walking floor. The cave occupied that same forráskúp—an area later built over by the former Tihany castle and then, more substantially, by the abbey church. Because of repeated large-scale construction on the cone, the original cone’s form is no longer recognizable, and significant parts of its rock were removed and rebuilt elsewhere. …
