Hacienda de los Príncipes carries more than the story of a country estate: it preserves the agricultural and urban origins of Los Realejos. The grounds were reserved by the Adelantado Alonso Fernández de Lugo in the “Campo del Rey,” named by the conquerors for the possessions of Mencey Bencomo. In 1512 he established a majorazgo, and he also put into operation the first crop introduced here—sugarcane. The vineyard came later and, in 1497, a Portuguese figure, Alfons Velho, introduced vine cultivation at this hacienda, described as the first place in Tenerife where it was grown.
