A free walking tour is traditionally a guided group walk led by a local — companies like GuruWalk and SANDEMANs popularised the format. They are "free" in the sense that there is no upfront ticket; guides earn from tips at the end. WayWhisper is a different category: a free walking-audio guide app. There is no human guide and no group, but the core listening experience is genuinely free with no time limit.
Is WayWhisper a free walking tour?
It is a free walking tour in the self-guided audio sense — open the app, walk, listen, no payment required. It is not a free walking tour in the GuruWalk sense — there is no human guide to tip. If what you want is a person leading a group, we are not that. If what you want is to walk on your own with stories playing as you go, we are exactly that.
What is actually free?
Unlimited concise narrations on every covered place in every covered city. Plus full map access, GPS-based discovery, saved places, and one full city pack download for offline use. New accounts also get a 5-narration signup bonus on standard-length stories plus one deep-dive. Beyond that, registered free users get 2 standard narrations per day.
What is paid?
Premium (€4.99/month, €39.99/year, €79.99 lifetime) unlocks: unlimited standard and deep-dive narrations, curated walking routes, playback speed control (0.75×–1.5×), offline downloads of every city, and ad-free playback. There is no advertising in the free tier either; Premium just removes limits.
How long can I use the free tier?
Indefinitely. There is no trial period or expiry. The free tier is meant to be genuinely useful on its own — you should be able to walk a whole city with concise narrations and feel that you got real value. Premium is for people who want depth.
Do I have to tip or pay later?
No. Unlike a guided free walking tour, there is no tip jar at the end and no expectation of payment. WayWhisper is funded by Premium subscribers, not by free-tier walkers. You can use the free tier forever without owing anything.
