How does WayWhisper work as you walk?
A walking audio guide that listens to your GPS, picks the right story for your pace, and plays it hands-free as you pass each landmark — with optional themed Premium Routes for richer, fully-guided walks.
What happens when you open WayWhisper?
You see a map with your location and the nearest narrated places. Tap a place to read or play a story; turn on auto-play and stories start as you walk past each location. No login required to start — invite codes are needed only during the closed beta.
How does WayWhisper know what to play?
Your phone's GPS tells the app where you are. WayWhisper computes the distance to the nearest covered places and your walking speed, and selects the longest narration style that fits the time you'll spend within range — concise (~1 min), standard (2–3 min), or deep dive (4–6 min). Your depth preference is always the upper ceiling.
What if I have no signal?
Download a city pack while you're online — places, narration text, and audio files are stored on your device. Once downloaded, WayWhisper works fully offline. Map tiles, GPS positioning, and story playback all keep working in airplane mode.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Saved places, history, and preferences live on your device. Creating an account lets you sync across devices and contribute stories, but the core walking-and-listening loop needs no sign-up.
Will it work in my city?
WayWhisper is live in a growing list of European cities, with new ones added city-by-city. See the cities page for the current list and to request your city if it's missing.
Can I follow a guided themed route instead of free exploration?
Yes — every covered city has Premium Themed Routes alongside free exploration. A themed route stitches together a curated set of stops (a Roman-history walk, a hidden-courtyards loop, a food-and-cafés crawl, an architecture deep-dive) with longer, more detailed and nuanced narrations, smooth context bridges between stops, full-path navigation so you don't have to plan the route yourself, and practical info (best time of day, length, walking distance, accessibility notes). Routes are unlocked with Premium and add a richer experience on top of the free hands-free GPS-triggered stories.
